SITGREAVES COUNTY, ARIZONA
While doing research on the White Mountains region of Arizona, where Gorky is based, for the screenplay for "In The Land Of Good Oaks" Jesse Valencia created the fictional 'Sitgreaves County' for the world of the film. After realizing that his design for the theoretical county was not only possible, but potentially beneficial to Arizona, Valencia founded the grassroots political movement the Sitgreaves County Project, and presented his research supporting the creation of his proposed Sitgreaves County to the Arizona House of Representatives State and International Affairs Committee with his bill the Northeastern Arizona Development Act on March 20th, 2019.
Valencia's design for the county seal, at left, features the ponderosa pine the Sitgreaves region is known for, as well as two stars representing the southern portions of Navajo and Apache County, from which the county will be formed, and then the laurel represents the eventual victory of the movement in achieving their goal to create the county.
