Just announced: GORKY – FIRST DEMO/2004 EP

Our first release of the year, and one we’re super excited about, is a 3-song EP of material we recorded 11 years ago that has just resurfaced, previously thought lost to the sands of time.

Right before Christmas last year my sister found a CD of demos recorded around the time we reformed the band (the first time) with Gregg Aldridge on bass. Gregg’s neighbor Bob Geiger engineered and mixed this small selection of tunes, which we recorded in Gregg’s garage, that also was our practice space and the spot of many a house show. Savannah Decker, who was a member of the band briefly, plays keyboards. I’m not fond of the keys myself, and wish there was a way to edit them out, but hey, who cares, right? I don’t even think we were out of high school when we made this, so if you ask me, it doesn’t sound half bad for a bunch of teenagers with near to zero musical experience. Gregg was 14 or 15, Savannah was probably 16 or 17, and Ben and I had probably just turned 18.

There were seven or eight other songs on that CD but most of them are unlistenable. Could they come out one day? Sure, but the selection we have here is the best of that crop, digitally remastered by Jon Weil at Uranus, where we recorded #Datass last spring, and this will be the first of hopefully a whole slew of Gorky releases for 2015, so stay tuned!
